Claire Morris
Assistant Headteacher
Claire graduated from the University of Central Lancashire in 2015 with a First Class Honours Degree in Sports Coaching. During her studies, she gained a wealth of experience both in the UK and internationally, including coaching football at a summer camp in the USA, working at an international summer school in London, coaching football at Ăšjpest FC Academy in Budapest and volunteering in Cambodia, where she helped restore & improve local schools and taught English as a foreign language.
Following graduation, Claire completed her PGCE in Physical Education at Durham University in 2016 and began her teaching career at Ferryhill School, before moving to Walbottle Academy and then joining Bedale High School as a Teacher of PE in September 2018.
During her early years at Bedale, Claire worked closely with local primary schools, delivering PE lessons and organising cluster sporting events. She also introduced a new GCSE course within the PE department, broadening opportunities for students and contributing to improved outcomes within the subject. Alongside teaching full time, Claire continued her own professional development, completing a Master’s in Education at Durham University in 2019.
In January 2020, Claire was appointed Head of Key Stage 4, where she also led the school’s careers provision. After completing her Level 6 Careers Leader Qualification, she strengthened careers education through initiatives including the school’s first Careers Fair, Careers in the Curriculum days and Work Ready Week.
Claire was appointed Head of Creative and Health Faculty in April 2022 before progressing to Assistant Headteacher in September 2025. In her current role, Claire leads on behaviour across the school, with a focus on promoting high expectations, positive behaviour and ensuring that all students are able to learn and succeed.
