In Summer 2025, we were excited to launch the new House System at Bedale High School; this provides the school community with the opportunity to take a fully inclusive part in a whole school House System. The House System is designed to encourage students to engage in healthy competition and to apply and extend their learning across the entire curriculum, whilst ‘living’ our core values. It is hoped that students will also develop a sense of identity, belonging and responsibility within their Houses, and use this to have a positive impact across the wider school community.
The theme of our House System was chosen by the Student Council, and is based upon four significant rivers in North Yorkshire: River Wharfe, River Derwent, River Swale and the River Nidd. All students and members of staff are allocated to one of these four Houses and will remain members of their Houses throughout their time at Bedale High School; this is represented through tie colour stripes, staff lanyards and ‘themed’ parts of the building where tutor groups are located.

House Token Collectors
Our House Token collectors are at the heart of the House system, as this how we keep track of the standings of each House. At Bedale High School, we encourage our students to work together to succeed in the House system and value the importance of collaboration and friendly competition. At the end of each half-term, the House that is performing the best will win an amazing prize!
One House Token is awarded to an exceptional student by the class teacher every lesson, by staff around school who witness a student demonstrating our core values and through a wide range of calendared House competitions that run throughout the year.
We want to reward our students for performing at their best, so that they can feel proud about their achievements no matter how big or small; we also want to celebrate when our students embody our core values of Courage, Commitment and Compassion.
